OPL: SFC lead men’s standings
Scrosoppi are charting the course to reclaim the divisional crown from Woodbridge Strikers after a stellar start to the season.
Scrosoppi are top of the men’s Ontario Premier League top-flight standings, with a three-point gap ahead of second-placed Oakville.
In his return to the Pro-Am level after managing HFX Wanderers in the Canadian Premier League, Patrice Gheisar has guided SFC to six wins from seven regular-season matches.
The campaign began on the road with a convincing 2-0 win against St Catharines Roma Wolves. Luka Juricic, who scored a brace to help SFC win last year’s OPL Cup Final, was the first to strike this year, followed by Lowell Wright’s debut goal for the club.
Returning star from the 2024 season, Jacob Carlos, struck home from the penalty spot as Sudbury visited Scrosoppi. Juricic found the eventual winner in the second half; 2-1 the final score to end a perfect April.
But it was far from a dream start in May, as Scrosoppi fell to a 5-1 defeat against title rivals Woodbridge, and then lost on penalties in the OPL Cup after coming from behind twice against Cambridge United.
SFC found form again versus International FC as former CPL player Wright scored a hat-trick. Chimere Omeze then netted a brace against Unionville Milliken, with Joao Costa and Carlos also striking in the 4-0 win.
Wright found his fifth of the season for the opening goal in a 3-0 win against Burlington, with Jeremy Opong and Costa wrapping up the three points in that match.
Then against Sigma, Carlos and Ethan Hunter put SFC two goals up inside 20 minutes, and SFC held on for a 2-1 win to give themselves breathing space at the top of the table ahead of a busy June schedule.
OPL 3 and U20
Scrosoppi’s B team have won two matches from their opening six games in the OPL 3 Central Division, collecting points in an eight-goal thriller against Vaughan Azzurri and a 3-0 victory against Sigma.
Meanwhile, SFC’s youngsters are currently top of the U20 Southwest Division, having managed to win four of their five opening matches. Rising star Christian Pitt, formerly of Toronto FC’s academy, is leading the region's scoring charts with seven goals in black, white, and gold.
