Every season, the Canadian Premier League gives us a reminder that the pathway from grassroots and semi-pro soccer to the professional game is very much alive. 

This year, three familiar faces from Scrosoppi have taken that step – and their journeys are exactly the kind of story we love sharing with our youth players. 

Whether it's a long-awaited debut, a breakout moment, or steady progress in a new environment, each of these three has something to be proud of so far in 2026.

Jacob Cabral (Inter Toronto)

Jacob Cabral's rise is a great example of what consistency and hard work can lead to. 

Fresh off being named the Ontario Premier League's top-division Young Player of the Year in 2025 with Scrosoppi, Cabral signed with Inter Toronto in April and wasted no time getting his shot – making his professional debut in the second week of the 2026 CPL season against Halifax Wanderers. 

Playing mostly for Inter Toronto II in Men’s OPL 2, he earned another call-up in late May as he continued to impress. At just 20 years old, Cabral is still very much in his development pathway, but his short-term first-team contracts are a strong sign that the coaching staff sees him as part of their pathway plans going forward. 

Tristan Marshall (Pacific FC)

Tristan Marshall's path has taken him further than most – literally. After building his game through Toronto Skillz FC, North Toronto, and two seasons with Scrosoppi (where he was named a league First Team All-Star in 2024), Marshall spent time playing professionally in Greece with Makedonikos before returning home to sign with Pacific FC in April 2026. 

He made his debut early on, starting against CPL newcomers Supra du Québec, and has since featured in another five matches.

His contract includes options through to 2028 – a real vote of confidence in his ability to grow into a top defender in this league. He also brings something not every young Canadian defender has: international experience with the St. Vincent and the Grenadines national team. 

Tomasz Skublak (Inter Toronto)

Tomasz Skublak's story might be the most inspiring of all, because it's a reminder that the road to professional soccer isn't always a straight line – and it's never too late to get another shot. 

After a taste of the CPL back in the league's inaugural season with Halifax in 2019, Skublak was on the books at clubs in Canada and Europe before signing for SFC while working full-time as a realtor.

Inter Toronto brought him back into the professional game for 2026, and he has made the absolute most of it: netting four goals in 10 matches. His standout moment came on May 1 against defending champions Atlético Ottawa, where he scored a brace in a 4-1 win – and then went viral for pulling out his real estate business card mid-celebration. 

At 28 years old, not only does Skublak bring valuable experience to Inter Toronto’s youngsters, but he also shows aspiring soccer stars what can happen with talent, persistence, and the right playing platform.

Their progress this season after leaving Scrosoppi, however big or small, is proof to every young player coming through our program that the professional game is within reach.
