IberCup champions preparing for next opportunities

Shayne Griffin outlines future tournaments for the 2011 Boys squad and how they will continue to support the players’ development.

Scrosoppi’s 2011 Boys squad will be heading out of Canada for at least five different tournaments in the coming months, looking to build on a successful summer season.

Between April and October this year, the squad won three titles in three different locations: Portugal, the USA, and here in Canada. This was in addition to reaching finals in the Ontario Cup and the Top Rated Challenge Cup, even while competing up an age group in the latter.

The boys are now preparing to finish the year on a high in the Bethesda Premier Cup, which is taking place in Maryland, USA, at the end of November.

While it may be the last trip south of the border this year, it is the first of four US tournaments that are already locked in on the calendar.

“Over the coming months, our players will attend the Bethesda Premier Cup, followed by Crossroads of America 2027, Blue Chip Showcase 2027, and Jefferson Cup 2027, along with another European tournament early in the year,” said Scrosoppi’s Executive Director Shayne Griffin, who coaches the squad alongside his leadership role at the club.

“These events will give the boys valuable opportunities to face strong opposition, experience different styles of football, and showcase their abilities to college and university coaches.

“Alongside our ongoing training program, they’ll help prepare players for our Ontario Premier League pathway and explore future opportunities in Canada, the US, and abroad.”

Ahead of the trip to Maryland, we asked Griffin for his message to the players after a summer that strengthened their foundations for bright futures in the game.

“You’ve earned the right to be proud of what you’ve achieved together,” he said. “These results reflect your hard work, commitment, and willingness to support each other through challenges. Enjoy those accomplishments but stay hungry and humble.

“As we prepare for next season and our OPL pathway beyond, the expectations will rise, and we’ll need everyone committed to taking the next step.

“Keep showing up, keep pushing each other, and keep believing in what we can achieve together.”
