OPL 2026: Scrosoppi face title rivals Woodbridge as stakes ramp up
A home date with new leaders Woodbridge Strikers this Friday gives SFC the chance to hit straight back.
Scrosoppi FC's men sit second in the Men's OPL 1 table heading into a pivotal week, four points behind new leaders Woodbridge Strikers and one ahead of third-placed Oakville following results that have swung the title race back and forth.
Patrice Gheisar's side have faced Oakville twice since the start of June, with the six points up for grabs shared between the two teams.
The first meeting saw Oakville come back from a goal down to narrowly win 3-2, with Peter Wator netting in the seventh minute of stoppage time to snatch victory.
But Scrosoppi responded in style. After a 4-1 midweek win over Simcoe County Rovers – and a brace for Reshaun Walkes against his former club – the rematch with Oakville at St. Francis Xavier produced the goods.
A statement 3-0 victory saw Walkes on the scoresheet again before Emile Kisse and Jeremy Opong found the net in stoppage time.
A 2-2 tie away at North Toronto saw Scrosoppi come from behind twice through Walkes and Kisse without finding a winner. They needed an even bigger recovery four days later against Sigma FC, hauling themselves back from 3-0 down to salvage a 3-3 draw with Joao Costa scoring two. Both results allowed Woodbridge Strikers and Oakville to close the gap heading into the business end of the campaign.
Scrosoppi's highly anticipated match at Vaughan Azzurri ended level at 1-1 – a repeat meeting of last year's OPL Cup Final, but this time with the spoils shared.
Woodbridge then capitalized on SFC’s late 2-1 defeat at Sudbury Cyclones to gain a little breathing space at the top of the standings, but that could change in what’s set to be one of the biggest matches of the season this Friday.
Head to St. Francis Xavier to watch Scrosoppi take on Woodbridge Strikers, and make some noise for Milton’s team!
OPL 3 and U20
Scrosoppi's B team had a mixed run of form in the OPL 3 Central Conference, with wins coming against Sudbury B and Simcoe B among dropped points against Rush Canada and Woodbridge Strikers. The month's highlight came in a wild 5-4 win over Inter Toronto III, with Scrosoppi holding on despite the CPL academy side scoring twice in stoppage time.
Scrosoppi's U20 side are leading the way in the OPL U20 Southwest Conference, currently in a tight title battle with St. Catharines Roma Wolves and Railway City. The latter were the visitors to St. Francis Xavier last Thursday with goals from Hussain Hanif and Christian Pitt securing a huge three points for SFC.
